Derreck Kayongo

Derreck Kayongo is the former CEO of the Center for Civil and Human Rights, Social Entrepreneur, Global Soap Project Founder, and a CNN Hero

Kayongo is the founder of the Global Soap Project: a humanitarian aid organization that collects discarded and unused soap from thousands of hotels worldwide, reprocesses it, then distributes it through global health programs to in-need populations around the world. His innovative idea and creative problem solving have helped dissipate hygiene-related diseases and resulting deaths in countries battling global health issues.

Harnessing Your Power to Create Change

In his keynote session, Derreck Kayongo breaks down the key factors that have led to his success; Service, Education, Leadership and Faith (S.E.L.F.). He shares his account of life as a Ugandan refugee and the turning point, which led him to a brilliant transformation as a social entrepreneur. Kayongo challenges audiences to focus on personal accountability, to seek out opportunities to improve, and most importantly, to maintain faith in yourself and your team so that together you create an environment where everyone is empowered to thrive.


Amanda Benedict

Amanda Benedict, MA, CStd, is Vice President, Standards at the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI). In addition to overseeing the strategic and operational functions of AAMI’s expansive and dynamic Standards program and portfolio, her work includes managing the national and international work program for the AAMI Sterilization standards portfolio, which includes serving as the Secretary and U.S. TAG Administrator for ISO/TC 198 on sterilization of health care products. Benedict has authored and reviewed articles for AAMI publications and designed, developed, and/or delivered educational sessions at conferences and workshops including AAMI, IAHCSMM, APIC and ANSI.

Benedict served two terms on the Board of Directors of SES – the Society for Standards Professionals and was recognized for outstanding contribution to SES. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and a Master of Arts in education and human development from the University of Maryland, College Park.

Standards in Focus: Key Updates in ANSI/AAMI ST91 and Other Standards on the Horizon

The revised ANSI/AAMI ST91, Flexible and semi-rigid endoscope processing in health care facilities, was published in early 2022. The new edition is substantively different from the previous version of the standard and reflects clarified and expanded evidence-based practice in processing endoscopes for enhanced patient safety. What has changed, and what are the key elements that infection preventionists need to be aware of for implementation of the revised standard? And what’s next for ST91 and other key standards and technical documents?

Tiffany Dogan

Tiffany Dogan is the Infection Prevention Program Manager at UCLA Health Santa Monica Medical Center. She received her Masters of Public Health degree in Hospital and Molecular Epidemiology from the University of Michigan. Dogan has over 10 years of IP experience working at two large academic medical centers, both recognized by Newsweek as World’s Best Hospital for Infection Prevention. Her work includes strategizing, developing and implementing quality improvement initiatives across all healthcare practice settings, with a focus on leading with influence.

Dogan enjoys teaching and integrating infection prevention concepts in the classroom. She served as an adjunct instructor at the University of Michigan’s School of Public for 5 years and taught hospital microbiology at the local community college.
